Minister Moskwa: No risk of coal shortage

by Dignity News
“There is no such risk that there will be a shortage of coal. The amount ordered both for the power industry and for individual consumers is more than we need, but since it has to arrive, be sieved and transported, it does not necessarily mean that in September we will buy the coal for the whole winter”, said Anna Moskwa, Minister for Climate and Environment.

She also informed that imported coal, mainly from Colombia, had already been coming to Poland, and currently the larger amount is being imported. „It is the same quality, the same standards; the same coal is exported to Germany and the Czech Republic”, she added.

Minister Moskwa argued that there is no risk that Poland will run out of coal and eco-pea coal. “It is best to buy it in tranches, it is still at the same price”, she stated.

At its session on Friday, 2 September, the Sejm will deal with government draft laws introducing additional possibilities of subsidising heat sources other than coal. When asked about the details of the proposed solutions, Minister Moskwa said that the bill covers all heat users who may be affected by increases due to the rise in the price of the raw material.

The energy supplement is a support for people heating with pellets, fuel oil, wood and LPG. The subsidies will be PLN 3,000 for pellets, PLN 2,000 for fuel oil, PLN 1,000 for chunk wood and PLN 500 for LPG.

According to the Minister for Climate and the Environment, from now everyone has the knowledge that the heat bill should be reduced. “This is what we should expect from the heating cooperative, and it should expect this from the district heating company, its supplier”, she said.

Applications must be submitted by 30 November to municipality in person or electronically. “In the case of coal, the municipality has up to 60 days to pay the allowance, the rest of the heat sources will be paid up to 30 days”, informed Minister Moskwa.
