Mark Brzezinski: No country ever has done as much for refugees as Poland

by Dignity News
“Poland has the rule to accept all refugees from Ukraine and place them in private homes. No country has ever done it for refugees”, said Mark Brzezinski, the US ambassador to Poland.

In an interview with Steve Clemons, the American diplomat stressed that when he was the US ambassador to Sweden, the Swedes were rightly proud to have successfully accepted and assimilated one million refugees for 20 years. Meanwhile, only in the last month, 2.5 million Ukrainians crossed the Polish border.

“It would not be strange if Poles, who have been building their positive economic growth for 30 years, said to the arriving Ukrainians: We understand your suffering, we see what is happening to you, but we cannot accept you, because we have just rebuilt our country and we have to defend it. But the Poles did exactly the opposite”, said Mark Brzezinski.

In the opinion of the US ambassador, contrary to initial fears, the current crisis has resulted in good cooperation “in matters of security, democracy, values and economy that are important from the point of view of Polish-American relations”.

“We talked very clearly with the Poles that we overwhelmingly support them when it comes to safety. We have 10.5 thousand soldiers in Poland, in Polish bases, we sent Patriot missiles to protect Poland and our president made it clear that we will defend every inch of Polish territory because Poland is a NATO member”, assured Mark Brzezinski.

Later in the conversation with the American ambassador to Poland, Steve Clemons raised the issue of international aid to Ukraine, which at the moment focuses on three main areas: arms supplies, military training and support for the battlefield, also including sanctions against Russia, aid to refugees and humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
