In October, the EC1 Centre for Comics and Interactive Narration will be launched in Łódź. The first temporary exhibition in the new facility will be a great retrospective of the master of comics and illustration – Grzegorz Rosiński.
Grzegorz Rosiński has been one of the leading masters of European comics for years. The artist’s rich biography, full of dramatic twists and turns, is inextricably linked to the complicated history of 20th-century Europe. His enormous artistic talent, consistently developed throughout his life, resulted in an impressive oeuvre. He is an artist with an outstanding, expressive personality, combining old-fashioned reliability and a sense of duty with humour and joie de vivre.
The co-creator of Thorgal and Kapitan Żbik has already had several impressive exhibitions in his career – such as the one in the grand salons of the town hall of Angoulême, organised during the XXX International Comics Festival in 2003, or the retrospective “Grzegorz Rosiński – master of illustration and comics”, organised by the Regional Museum in his hometown of Stalowa Wola.
The exhibition, prepared by the EC1 Centre for Comics and Interactive Narration in Łódź, aims to present as comprehensively as possible, but at the same time in a deeply personal way, the unique phenomenon of the personality and work of the Polish artist. The exhibition is distinguished by the huge number of works and objects that the creators of the exhibition – Piotr Rosiński and Maria Lengren – had at their disposal, as well as the unique and specific relationship between the Artist and the institution responsible for its realisation.
From the very beginning of the comics conventions in Łódź, which were the seed of the Centre and the festival it organised, Grzegorz Rosiński supported them and treated them with genuine friendship. This was, after all, an integral part of the role he had fulfilled for years with good results: the role of a promoter, ambassador, and friend of Polish comics – an art which owes him a great deal.
