Lidl Polska and Aldi announce cuts in retail prices

The Lidl Polska and Aldi retail chains have published announcements in regard to the planned introduction of a temporarily zero VAT rate on food in Poland from February 1. It is an element of the second part of the government’s anti-inflation shield, which will be dealt with by the Senate after the vote in the Sejm.

Exemption from VAT will apply to fertilizers and food, which are currently subject to a 5% VAT rate. The changes will enter into force from February 1 to the end of July 2022.

According to Lidl Polska, the owner of over 800 stores in Poland, at least 2,000 products will be discounted due to the reduction in the VAT rate.

The list of cheaper products with zero VAT rate is very long and includes cheaper butter, milk, cream, bread, apples, carrots, potatoes. Lower prices will apply in Lidl from February 1.

Aldi, the owner of over 200 stores in Poland, announced a price reduction from January 31. It will also reduce the prices for approximately 2,000 products.
