According to the estimates of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, in April 2022, the unemployment rate in Poland was 5.3%. This is 0.1% less than a month ago and less by 1% than a year ago. “Unemployment is lower than before the outbreak of the pandemic, which proves that the government’s protective measures in this area were effective”, informed the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg.

At the end of April this year there were 879.9 thousand unemployed Poles. Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed fell by 22.2 thousand people, i.e. by 2.5%. Moreover, in the unemployment registers at the end of April 2022 there were by 173.9 thousand. (i.e. 16.5%) less unemployed than at the end of April 2021.

Comparing the unemployment level at the end of April this year to the end of February 2020, i.e. just before the COVID-19 epidemic, the number of registered unemployed fell by around 40,000. people.

The good condition of the Polish labor market is also confirmed by Eurostat. Poland once again is at the forefront of European countries with the lowest unemployment.

“These data are in line with our expectations”, write Bank Millennium analysts in the commentary. In their opinion, the fall in the unemployment rate in April was mainly due to a seasonal increase in labor demand. This information confirms the strong demand for labor in Poland despite the risk factors related to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. In view of the shortage of employees with appropriate qualifications and high inflation reported by companies, the demand for labor translates into a rapid increase in salaries.
