KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. has received three building permits from the Głogów starost for a set of photovoltaic farm projects with a total installed capacity of 7.5 MW. The investment is planned to be realised on the premises of a division of the copper company – Głogów smelter.
The investment comprises three photovoltaic farm projects: PV HM Głogów I, PV HM Głogów II and PV HM Głogów III, located on the industrial premises of the Głogów Copper Smelter. They will be built in the direct vicinity of consumer installations, including existing MV transformer stations, to which new projects are planned to be connected.
Investment in photovoltaic farms is becoming a strategic element of KGHM’s development plans. “The modern world requires from us, the leaders of industry, not only efficient production, but also ecological responsibility. We know full well that copper is a key raw material for the world’s energy transition. By introducing photovoltaic farms into our generation asset structure, we are diversifying the way KGHM generates electricity, reducing costs and hedging against market volatility in the energy sector. We are investing in projects which are beneficial today, as well as in the long term”, said Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
According to the copper company, the set of photovoltaic farm projects in Głogów is being developed under the supervision of the Renewable Energy Department of KGHM, in close cooperation with the Głogów smelter.
Further RES projects planned for realisation on property owned by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. remain in the investment preparation process. The total planned installed capacity of the project portfolio is currently over 200 MW.
Thanks to its own sources of electricity, KGHM was able to cover nearly 17 % of the company’s total electricity demand in 2023.
