Jerzy Skolimowski became the laureate of the Polish Film Award Eagles 2022 for Life Achievements. The laureate was announced by Dariusz Jabłoński, the president of the Polish Film Academy.
Born on May 5, 1938, in Łódź, Jerzy Skolimowski graduated in ethnography from the University of Warsaw in 1959, and four years later he studied at the Directing Department of the Film School in Łódź.
He is the author of screenplays for such films as “Innocent Sorcerers” by Andrzej Wajda or “Knife in the Water” by Roman Polański. He is the winner of many film awards. incl. Golden Bear in Berlin for the film “Start”, Grand Prix of the Jury of the Cannes Film Festival for the film “The Shout” and the Special Jury Prize of the Venice Festival for the film “Lightship”. In 2016, he was awarded the Honorary Golden Lion of the Venice Festival for lifetime achievement.
Jerzy Skolimowski is also a multiple winner of the Polish Film Awards Eagles. In 2003, he received a Special Prize for “the independent attitude of the Polish filmmaker with a global dimension, realized in Poland and abroad, and for permanent ties with Poland”. In 2009, he received a statuette in the Best Directing category for the film ” Four Nights with Anna”. In 2011, he won Eagles for the Best Director and Best Film for “Essential Killing”.
The official awarding of the Eagle statuette for Achievement of Life will take place during the gala of 24 Poles Awards Film Eagles on June 6, 2022.
