-6,422 new cases of COVID-19 infection, i.e. 25% more than a week ago, and what is most worrying is that we are seeing an upward trend for the third day in a row. I hope that these increases are not the beginning of a wave of infections with the Omicron variant, said Adam Niedzielski, Minister of Health.
The current hospital beds occupancy is approximately 20,000. If we start another wave in these conditions, it would be a catastrophic scenario – added Minister Niedzielski.
According to the Minister of Health, vaccinations for teachers should be mandatory.
-In the case of medics, I made a decision to vaccinate all healthcare workers, but when it comes to other groups, it will be the prime minister’s decision. There is an ongoing discussion between various parties with different arguments – said Niedzielski and added that the head of the Ministry of Education and Science had a different opinion who accentuates the risk of such a decision for the stability of the education system. The government’s decision on this has not yet been made.
-While the trend of growth in infections continues, next Wednesday, next Friday at the latest, more decisions should be expected, perhaps more restrictions – announced Minister Niedzielski He added that restrictions may influence economic and social sectors, including, for example, closing shopping malls and maintaining distance learning in schools.
He also called once again those who have not yet been vaccinated, to do so as soon as possible, – Each of us will be exposed to contact with Omikron. In such a situation, avoiding vaccinations is a complete lack of responsibility – said Niedzielski.
