USD 6.5 billion was raised during the international conference of Donors for Ukraine. The initiators of the meeting at the National Stadium in Warsaw were the prime ministers of Poland and Sweden, Mateusz Morawiecki and Magdalena Andersson, and the partners were the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“Thank you for all your donations. I have just received the final amount and to inform you that we all collected $ 6.5 billion together. These are our donations today, thank you for them. Let us make sure that this money reaches the Ukrainians as quickly and effectively as possible”, said the Polish Prime Minister.
In Warsaw, the heads of governments declared their full solidarity and continued financial, humanitarian and military support for Ukraine. “The humanitarian situation in Ukraine is extremely difficult, urgent action is required”, said European leaders.
The head of the Polish government, summing up the conference, indicated that he is in constant contact with the president and prime minister of Ukraine and that Polish logistic systems allow users to undertake much more effective transport of humanitarian aid. Thanks to this, trucks coming with help from Poland reach all Ukrainian cities and towns faster.
Prime Minister Morawiecki emphasized that all people who were looking for a roof over their heads in Poland received such help – including medical assistance, free education and free transport.
During press statements, the head of the Polish government thanked the Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Charles Michel for his involvement, and the Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal for his presence at the conference.
Prime Minister Morawiecki also thanked the Poles involved in supporting refugees from Ukraine. He added that Ukrainians are fighting for the freedom of their country, but also for security and peace in Europe
“And we cannot forget about it”, he appealed.
