Poles have to wait for over half a year for a new car with a traditional engine. They can buy an electric vehicle faster, because it is a priority for manufacturers, informs the Rzeczpospolita daily.
“Buying an ordered car from the showroom in less than half a year becomes a rarity. Eight or ten months of waiting is a new standard but for some models, it takes one and a half years. The pandemic restrictions in the supply of car factories with parts and components, deepened by the war in Ukraine, overturned the sales plans of importers and dealers. And they frustrate customers more and more.
The newspaper points out that anyone who wants to buy a car relatively quickly should order a car without additional equipment. The most delaying factor is the automatic gearbox.
To speed up the collection, clients also have to give up the sunroof, rearview camera, matrix headlights, multi-zone air conditioning, and even parking and navigation sensors. Now it is worth opting for an electric car because it turns out that delivery times may be shorter than for internal combustion cars. Although, it does not mean immediate availability.
The newspaper pointed out that thanks to government subsidies and various bonuses for sellers, electric cars, although much more expensive than comparable diesel cars, are getting closer and closer to them at the real cost of purchase. However, it takes about four years to fully equalize the prices of electric and internal combustion engines.
The daily notes that on 7 or 8 June the European Parliament (EP) will vote to allow purely emission-free cars on the market from 2035, and the EP Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety have already voted to oblige manufacturers to reduce emissions from cars sold by 20% in 2025 (compared to 2021) and by 55% in 2030, which will translate into a further increase in the production of electric cars at the expense of internal combustion cars.
According to the European Association of Vehicle Manufacturers ACEA, in the first quarter of 2022, 224.100 fully electric cars were sold in the EU which is half more than the year before. In Poland, fully electric cars are so far a margin of the market, but the demand is accelerating: in Q1, almost 2.3 thousand electric cars were sold which is 144% more than a year earlier.
