ORLEN Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) has been included in the strategic US Phoenix programme. This is an initiative by the US State Department to support the energy transition in Central Europe through the construction of small modular reactors in place of coal-fired power plants.

“The inclusion of OSGE in the strategic programme run by the US Department of State is seen by us as recognition of the degree of progress of our project and recognition of the potential for building a fleet of SMRs in Poland. Thanks to our inclusion in the Phoenix Project, we can significantly accelerate our operations in collaboration with the US government, as well as with experienced and well-recognised companies from the United States in the nuclear power industry with which the Phoenix Project will be implemented”, said Rafał Kasprów, CEO of OSGE.

The opening ceremony in Bratislava was attended by representatives of the US government and delegations from Poland, Slovakia, and Romania. Representatives from the US nuclear industry, including SMR technology developers, and potential investors also joined those present. In addition to OSGE, Slovenske Elektrarne from Slovakia and Nuclearelectrica from Romania will also receive support.

In Poland, OSGE is involved in the implementation of the BWRX-300 SMR technology developed by US company GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, a key component of the Phoenix programme. OSGE has exclusive rights to implement this technology in Poland.

Led by the US government, the Phoenix initiative aims to support the energy transition in Europe by replacing fossil fuel-based power generation with SMR reactors, while preserving jobs by retraining workers. The programme provides direct funding from the US government.
