In September 2023, 69,998 imported used cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight (dmc) were registered in Poland. This is 4.9% more than a year ago, reports the Automotive Market Research Institute SAMAR.
“The September increase is the third consecutive one, which may indicate the increasing availability of cars abroad”, SAMAR stresses in the release. Automotive market experts believe that this year’s result should fluctuate around 780,000 vehicles, similarly to last year.
In total, after three quarters of this year, imports amounted to 594,923 units, only 192 less than last year (-0.03%). Most imported vehicles – 544,683 to be exact – are passenger cars, whose registrations show a minimal increase of 0.2% (a difference of 1,351 units). This year’s imports of commercial vehicles (50,240 units) are 3.0% lower than last year.
The age of imported cars remains high but is not increasing as dramatically as last year. The average age of cars imported this year is 13 years. “The decisive factor for such a result is the age of passenger cars, which has exceeded 13 years (13.12) and, in the case of petrol engines, is increasingly approaching the level of 14 years (13.94 years)”, reports SAMAR.
Not much has changed in the brand popularity rankings over the years. Among passenger cars, the first place is occupied by Volkswagen, and in the category of vans – Renault. In the case of passenger models, the Audi A4 is strengthening its leadership position, while the Opel Astra and Volkswagen Golf are fighting for second place. In the van segment, the Renault Master is invariably the most popular.
During the nine months of 2023, cars were most frequently imported to Poland from Germany 312,736 units, France – 70,143 units and Belgium – 41,710 units.
