Import of used cars to Poland collapsed

by Dignity News
According to the Automotive Market Research Institute (IBRM) Samar, the car shortage is becoming more and more apparent in the aftermarket. In April, the number of used passenger cars and vans imported to Poland from abroad was the lowest since 2014, apart from the pandemic in April 2020.

The number of registrations of used passenger cars and vans with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes imported to Poland in April amounted to 67,542 units, i.e. 17% less than a year earlier.

The vast majority (61,461 units) were passenger cars (decrease by 16.8%), and the remaining part (6,081 units) were vans (decrease by 19.1%).

The IBRM Samar announced that Poland is importing older and older cars, and April was a record month. The average age of the imported car after four months was 12.56 years, while in April alone it was a record 12.61 years. The average number is inflated by passenger cars (12.65), especially gasoline engines (13.48). Electric cars are the youngest vehicles. In the case of electric passenger cars, their age is 5.64, and for vans – 7.02 years.

The most popular source of car imports to Poland is invariably Germany with a share of 51%. During the first four months, 135,622 German cars were delivered to Poland, it means a decrease of as much as 24.6%, compared to the same period last year.

In terms of passenger cars, Poland will bring the most Volkswagen, Opel and Ford cars. Renault, Volkswagen and Fiat dominate the delivery vans.
