By November 2023, the number of electric cars registered in Poland had increased by 21,369 vehicles, up 54 % year-on-year. This is the latest data from the Electromobility Counter.

At the end of November 2023, 94,572 electric passenger cars operated on Polish roads. The fully electric passenger cars (BEVs, battery electric vehicles) numbered 49,139 and the plug-in hybrids (PHEVs, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) numbered 45,433. These figures come from the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM) and the Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA).

The number of vans and trucks with electric drive was 5,669 vehicles. The report’s authors noted that the electric mopeds and motorbikes are also growing steadily, with 19,411 cars at the end of November, as well as the number of hybrid cars and vans, which increased to 658,547. By the end of November this year, Poland’s electric bus fleet had grown to 1,120 vehicles.

In parallel to the electric vehicles, the charging infrastructure is also developing. According to the Electromobility Counter, at the end of November 2023, there were 5829 publicly accessible electric vehicle charging points (3277 stations) in Poland. Only 25 % of them were fast DC charging points and 75 % – slow AC points of less than or equal to 22 kW.

In the opinion of Maciej Mazur, Managing Director of PSPA, the past year would have been much better for the electromobility market if the public administration had introduced several changes long advocated by the industry.

“The most urgent measures to be taken as early as the beginning of 2024 include shortening the connection procedures for charging stations, optimising the ‘My Electric car’ programme and introducing subsidies for zero-emission heavy road transport”, Mazur said.
