Iga Świątek won the French Open Grand Slam tournament for the second time, playing on clay courts in Paris. The Polish tennis player defeated the American Coco Gauff 6: 1, 6: 3 in the final. This is the 35th consecutive victory of a Polish lady in the sixth tournament this year.

“I am glad that I have sealed all my victories this season”, said the leader of the WTA ranking in an interview.

Iga Świątek became the “Queen of Paris” for the second time. The Polish tennis player previously triumphed at the Roland Garros courts in 2020.

“Two years ago, I was very confused and I could not quite feel these positive emotions. This time it was different because I am more aware of what my life was like. As I listened to the anthem and saw that the stadium was full, there were a few tears. Such a moment is remembered for the rest of one’s life …” she emphasized.

The next sporting challenge for the Polish tennis player is Wimbledon on grass courts. First, however, there will be a short rest.

“First of all, I am looking forward to a few days without tennis and without having to motivate myself continuously which I have done for two months. Now I can rest and do other things. This makes me very happy”, said the two-time French Open champion.

President Andrzej Duda congratulated Świątek on her huge success.

“Iga Świątek is not only a born fighter and a great star of the world tennis, who defeats her rivals with class, going from victory to victory. She is also a wise young woman who has courage and heart. Thank you, Iga! We are simply proud of you!” wrote the president on Twitter.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also congratulated the Polish champion. He emphasized that she is not only a great tennis player but also a brave woman.

“The whole Paris tournament is her consistent victories and consistent support for fighting Ukraine,” wrote the head of the government on Twitter.
