The Polish government will allocate a total of more than PLN 5 billion for programmes supporting electromobility”, said Deputy Minister for Climate and Environment Ireneusz Zyska during a ceremony to establish the Western Electromobility Cluster (ZKE).

The deputy minister recalled that the total budget of the currently operating ‘My Electric car’ and ‘Green Public Transport’ programmes is PLN 2.7 billion.

“A further PLN 870 million has been allocated to support the development of alternative fuel infrastructure – fast charging stations and hydrogen refuelling points. The expected effect will be the creation of several thousand charging points of various types and at least 20 hydrogen refuelling stations throughout the country”, said Zyska.

The deputy minister pointed out that an additional PLN 1 billion has been directed to the development of the electricity grid for the charging stations, and the real effect of the programme will be the expansion and modernisation of around 4,000 km of the distribution network and the creation of around 800 transformer-distribution stations.

The Western Electromobility Cluster (ZKE) was established at the initiative of local authorities and entities from the energy sector in Lower Silesia and the South-Western Poland region. It is to be led by the Legnica Special Economic Zone. Its structure includes local authorities, associations, special economic zones and independent enterprises. Their cooperation is to involve, among other things, joint access to modern technology and an educational base.

ZKE is an unprecedented project in the region. The main objective of the project is to increase the innovative potential of electromobility players in the partners’ area of operation. The consortium remains open to the prospect of involving other actors from the region. It is planning to establish cooperation with business environment institutions, universities and research and development units.
