“We are introducing a maximum price mechanism for vulnerable consumers, local authorities and small and medium-sized enterprises, which reduces prices to the European Commission’s acceptable level of consumption – 785 PLN/MWh. In addition, we have also prepared a maximum electricity mechanism for all households not exceeding 693 PLN/MWh”, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Facebook.
As he assured, this is the government’s response to the energy crisis and the sharp increase in prices. ‘We do not leave Poles and Polish companies alone and we support them with all available means,’ wrote the Prime Minister, adding that the government’s shield for energy-intensive industries and sensitive subjects means reduced, maximum energy prices and security for companies, jobs and protection of the competitiveness of the Polish economy.
“In order to protect electricity consumers, a maximum price mechanism for electricity will be introduced. Support will be provided to small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as to schools, hospitals, social welfare homes or night shelters. There will also be an increased support for households, beyond the current limit of 2,000 kWh”, emphasises Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa, who on 11 October 2022 presented the Council of Ministers with the assumptions of the draft law on emergency measures aimed at limiting the level of electricity prices and support for certain consumers in 2023.
The maximum price will be applied by sellers for households – from the moment of exceeding the limit, i.e. 2,000 kWh, until 31 December 2023; public utilities – from 1 December 2022 until 31 December 2023 with the price applying to consumption of no more than 90% of average energy consumption; small and medium-sized entrepreneurs – from 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023 with the price applying to consumption of no more than 90% of average energy consumption of such subjects.
