Piotr Naimski, a secretary of state in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the government’s plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, said that Poland would manage to supply fuel in the case of an embargo on gas and oil from Russia. He added that oil from Russia could be replaced by raw material from Iran.
Piotr Naimski was asked about when Poland can expect fuel prices to fall and what would have to happen to bring them back to pre-conflict levels.
“It is a dream of all of us, but the situation is not favorable and it is difficult to say when we will return to the former prices. If it turns out that oil products and hydrocarbons from Russia will be covered by the embargo, we will deal with that in Poland. All issue is calculated, sound and clear. We will be able to supply everyone with fuel, but it is difficult to comment on the price at the moment”, said Naimski.
He stressed that oil from Iran could be a substitute for Russian crude. Business Insider Polska predicts that it is getting closer to the nuclear agreement between Iran and the USA and that would unlock trade in Iranian oil on a larger scale.
“It seems that the Iranian oil is the closest to the Russian crude. For refineries that process Russian crude oil to a large extent, like the refinery in Płock where it is roughly 2/3, this replacement with Iranian crude oil is technologically very simple. The margins are also similar”, explained the government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure.
