On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers adopted the Government’s Programme for the Construction of National Roads (RPBDK) until 2030, This is a road infrastructure development plan that the Polish government first boasted in August last year as an important element of the Polish Deal.
The new RPBDK assumes the construction of more than 2,500 km of new motorways, as well as the completion of ongoing investments and a full network of motorways and expressways. Approximately PLN 294.4 billion will be allocated for the implementation of the investments. “This is the largest road programme in the history of Poland”, informs the Ministry of Infrastructure.
“The Government’s National Roads Construction Programme is the largest expressway and motorways construction programme in Poland’s history. We are connecting Poland, we are connecting Poles and in this way we are also creating new perspectives for the development of entrepreneurship. It is therefore a vehicle for economic development for the whole of Poland”, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at Tuesday’s press conference.
The aim of the RPBDK is to create a coherent network of national roads ensuring the efficient functioning of road passenger and freight transport. Improving the capacity of the main arteries is one of the key elements that can increase the development dynamics of both regions and the country through easier, faster and cheaper flow of goods and services. The primary source of funding is the National Road Fund, which is supported also by the European Union.
Planned investments include the Western Bypass of Szczecin, the S11 expressway from Central Pomerania to Upper Silesia, the S10 road from Szczecin to Warsaw and the Warsaw Agglomeration Bypass. The A2 Warsaw – Łódź motorway and the A4 Krzyżowa – Wrocław and Wrocław – Tarnów motorways will be rebuilt.
The Via Carpatia corridor, the completion of the S5 and S8 in Lower Silesia, and the completion of the S6 expressway in Pomerania remain the main priorities in terms of continuing tasks. Conceptual work will be also commenced on further sections of national roads important to the road network.
