From Saturday, 150 exhibits will be presented as part of the “Antoni Gaudí” exhibition at the Zamek Cultural Center in Poznań. The organizers inform that this is the first in Poland and the largest in Europe such extensive presentation of the artist’s masterpieces. The exposition will be available until July 3.
The exhibits include plans, models, drawings, sculptures, furniture, architectural elements, ceramics and photographs from the collections of Spanish public and private institutions. Preparations for the exhibition lasted several years, the opening date was postponed several times due to the pandemic.
The curator of the exhibition, Charo Sanjuán Gómez emphasizes that the exhibition tries to present Gaudi’s way of working through his specific, subsequent projects. The exhibition begins with his little-known works, which he carried out even before graduating from architectural studies when he was at that time an assistant to other important, famous architects of Barcelona.
In her opinion, the exhibition will be of interest to both those who have been to Barcelona, who know Gaudi’s works, and those who still know little about his works.
“The exhibition has different levels, presenting different aspects, and therefore everyone will find something of particular interest. Certainly, for all visitors, this is an opportunity to see Gaudi in a way they never knew before. Everyone falls in love with its forms and colors – and thanks to the exhibition they can discover that this beautiful form hides very hard work, enormous craftsmanship, and the designer genius of Gaudi – emphasized the curator.
The director of the Zamek Culture Center, Anna Hryniewiecka, said that the opening of the exhibition was supposed to be a very joyful day, but it turned out that today we live in a completely different reality of the war of our closest neighbors, and we are all thinking about how to help them.
The director recalled the initiative launched last Sunday by artists and cultural institutions from Poznań to help Ukraine. since last Sunday, cultural events have been taking place along with donations of blood, clothes and money to help refugees.
The exhibition will be accompanied by an educational program; lectures, meetings, workshops, tours, lessons for schools. The organizers announce an attempt to explore the phenomenon of Barcelona – the city where the artist worked and the historical sources of his inspiration. They also want to look at Gaudi’s contemporary legacy and what can be learned from him today.
