Foreign Minister: NATO’s eastern flank cannot be strengthened without cooperation with Poland

“Poland plays a significant role, it is a loyal and indispensable ally of the USA, because one cannot effectively help Ukraine without cooperating with Poland, if only for logistical reasons”, said Zbigniew Rau, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The head of Polish diplomacy maintained that NATO’s eastern flank cannot be strengthened without cooperation with Poland, which is the strongest part of this flank.

According to Zbigniew Rau, Poland is coming up with new initiatives and exerting quite effective pressure on allies who lack either dynamism or activism in helping Ukraine.

“Helping Ukraine is a joint responsibility. When it comes to the unity of the transatlantic community, it is impossible to maintain and make it dynamic and activist without Poland. We have noticed this over the past year. For a year now, our aspirations and expectations have become a reality”, said Minister Rau.

He pointed out that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine had made Europe aware of its security deficit.

‘Poland is currently spending more on armaments than anyone else in the region, so we are not just a recipient of security from the US, but we also feel responsible for our neighbours, hence our great effort towards Ukraine’, said the foreign minister and noted that Poland additionally offers humanitarian security for refugees from Ukraine.

‘By filling the security gap in a conscious and purposeful way, we are shifting the security centre of continental Europe within the transatlantic community to our part of the Old Continent, and it is difficult to point to opposite vectors at the moment’, said Zbigniew Rau.
