Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak informed on Twitter that the first group of American soldiers in Poland is preparing the stay of the main forces of the American Brigade Combat Group from the 82nd Airborne Division. This is a response to the actions of Russia, which has gathered over 100,000 soldiers and heavy weapons at the border with Ukraine.
Mariusz Błaszczak emphasized that preparations are continued to welcome the main forces of the Brigade Combat Group from the 82nd US Airborne Division. There is already a group in Poland preparing the reception of 1,700 soldiers, as part of the transfer. This is a clear signal of allied solidarity in response to the situation in Ukraine.
The Pentagon announced a temporary increase in the number of US troops in Europe in order to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank due to the concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border. 2 thousand soldiers will be sent to Poland and Germany with 1700 of them going directly to Poland.
The soldiers who flew to Europe as part of the temporary US mission to support NATO allies on the eastern flank belong to one of the most elite and mobile units of the US Army, which has participated in almost all US military interventions since World War I.
The soldiers flew away from America without heavy equipment due to the availability of weapons and equipment in the warehouses of Europe. Pentagon spokesman John Kirn announced that further deployment of troops in Europe is possible. In the US, 8.5 thousand soldiers were put on heightened alert for deployment in Europe.
