Almost EUR 29.3 billion, of which EUR 24.2 billion from European Union funds, will be allocated by Poland for investments and initiatives under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment (FEnIKS) programme.
The money will support the development of a low-carbon economy, road construction, railway development, environmental and health protection, and culture. A representative of the European Commission, Normunds Popens, acting Director-General of the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, presented the Minister for Funds and Regional Policy, Grzegorz Puda, with the decisions approving the programme.
“This is the largest investment programme in the European Union, which will allocate more than €24 billion from the EU budget for environmental and climate protection, biodiversity preservation, clean energy and transport, improving the quality of healthcare and protecting cultural heritage in Poland”, said Popens, stressing that the programme will provide an opportunity to create new, attractive jobs, develop entrepreneurship and raise the standard of living of Polish citizens, thus providing a significant boost to Poland’s socio-economic development.
FEnIKS support will cover 5 key areas – energy, environment, transport, health, and culture. Most funds will be allocated to transport and energy. Investments supported by the programme will be carried out by enterprises, local governments, national road and railway managers, rescue services, non-governmental organisations, health care institutions or cultural institutions”, said Funds and Regional Policy Minister Grzegorz Puda.
Implementation of the FEnIKS programme will also allow for increased energy efficiency in housing, public buildings and businesses. Plans include expanding the share of green energy from renewable sources in final energy consumption.
