European media comment on the visit of the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia to Kyiv

by DignityNews.eu
European media commented on the Tuesday visit of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński together with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala and Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Jansa in Kyiv. The prime ministers met with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the prime minister of that country, Denys Shmyhal.

British media emphasize that this is the first such trip since the beginning of the war and that it took place despite the Russian shelling of the Ukrainian capital city.

“The trip of the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia is the most significant visit to Kyiv since the Russian invasion of this country on February 24. Despite the symbolism of the war visit to Kyiv, officials in Brussels expressed reservations about the trip, stressing that it was not an official mission on behalf of the EU”, wrote the Financial Times.

The author of the commentary in the Italian daily “La Repubblica” assessed that the trip of the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia shows the same readiness to challenge tyrant despotism as previously demonstrated with sanctions, but above all with arms deliveries.

“This trip proves that Europe can also deal a strong blow to those who stand against it”.

The article on the delegation’s trip was titled “Europe in Kyiv”. According to the newspaper, the train with the prime ministers “challenged the siege” of the Ukrainian capital city.

Italian news agencies also provide extensive information on the trip of a delegation from the governments of three countries to the capital of Ukraine. Ansa quoted the words of Deputy Prime Minister Kaczyński, who said that a NATO “peace mission” is needed. At the same time, he stipulated that this mission should also be able to defend itself and seek humanitarian aid, but “it will also be protected by appropriate forces, armed forces.”

The German portal RND wrote that from a political point of view, the physical conduct of the talks was more important than the content of the talks.

Mateusz Morawiecki, Petr Fiala and Janez Jansa dared to go to Kyiv at a time when the city is already besieged by Russian troops and shelled by artillery, noted RND.

“Putin cannot like it. People should be afraid of him and his army. Hadn’t he already threatened with nuclear bombs often enough during this crisis? Now one gets the impression that he is no longer being taken seriously – assesses the portal.

The French daily Le Figaro assessed that the delegation’s trip to Kyiv was both a symbolic and concrete visit, and the leading Spanish daily El Mundo called the visit of prime ministers to Kyiv a commendable gesture.
