The Łukasiewicz – Electrotechnical Institute is developing a special free-standing device that is able to constantly power as many mobile devices as possible. Refugees from Ukraine who flee the war with Russia will be able to charge their mobile phones there.
Nearly 25,000 people have recently entered Poland from Ukraine every day. Since the beginning of the Russian aggression on February 24, over 2.7 million refugees have crossed the border to Poland.
“Many refugees from Ukraine who reach Poland are struggling with the problem of a discharged mobile phone, and cannot tell their loved ones that they are already safe. To meet their expectations, we will install charging stations for mobile devices that will facilitate faster and more efficient contact with their families. Thus, they will be able to tell them that they have already safely reached Poland”, said Marcin Kraska, vice president for research and development at Centrum Łukasiewicz.
Mobile operators provide Ukrainian citizens who cross the border with SIM cards with a package of free minutes and gigabytes. In order to support these activities, together with the authorities of border cities, representatives of the Łukasiewicz Research Network selected three charging point installation locations. The devices were installed in Tomaszów Lubelski (Sportowa 5 and Wyspiańskiego 8 Streets), Lubycza Królewska (Jana III Sobieskiego 5 Street).
The device developed by scientists from the Łukasiewicz Network can be installed virtually anywhere with an ordinary 230 Volt socket. It is prepared to work inside buildings. Each docking station has 18 special pockets that allow for simultaneous charging of mobile devices equipped with USB connectors. The maximum power consumption is 200 Watt.
