PKN Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek wrote on social media that PKN Orlen’s Baltic Power wind farm obtained the first of the required building permits for the onshore part.
“Our Baltic Power offshore wind farm has today obtained the first of the required building permits for the onshore part of the investment. This is the first such decision issued for Offshore Wind projects in Poland, bringing the ORLEN Group closer to the start of investment in 2024”, Obajtek announced on Twitter.
The issuance of the permit was notified by the Pomeranian Voivode. The notice, published on Monday 30 January, said that on 26 January 2023, a decision was issued approving the land development project and the architectural and construction project, as well as granting a permit for the construction of a strategic investment concerning the set of equipment for power derivation ‘Connection of the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm to the National Power System’ in the commune of Choczewo in the poviat of Wejherowo. The decision is subject to immediate execution.
The Baltic Power offshore wind farm is a key project of ORLEN Group and Northland Power in the construction of a clean, low-carbon economy. Renewable energy sources, including offshore wind power, will be the foundation of our sustainable development in the years to come. The Baltic Power project, located approximately 23 km north of the coastline at Choczewo and Łeba, is one of the most advanced investments planned in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea. Investors have a concession to build a power plant with a capacity of up to 1.2 GW, but its target capacity will depend on a number of factors, such as geological conditions of the Baltic seabed, environmental conditions or technological development.
When completed in 2026, it will be able to supply more than 1.5 million households with clean energy.
