When fuel prices are rising, the bicycle is often becoming an alternative. In Poland, 70% of respondents declare owing a bicycle and over 25% are planning to buy a bicycle this year.
The popularity of bicycles has been growing for several years, and this was especially noticeable during the pandemic when Poles found out that bikes could be an alternative to crowded public transport.
In the face of soaring fuel prices, two-wheelers have become an alternative that cannot be overestimated. Not only because of the economic aspect, but also, and maybe even above all, because of the need to take care of your own well-being and the well-being of the family – emphasized Iwona Stępniak, Marketing Director at KROSS company.
According to the study conducted by the Difference agency, city bikes are the most popular, as 33% of respondents want to buy them. They are followed by mountain bikes (19%) and children’s bikes (18%).
Interestingly, electric bicycles have an increasing share in the bicycle market. Usability and comfort are vital for consumers. In research commissioned by the KROSS company, as much as 84% of respondents found that an electric bike can be a convenient way to get around the area. More than half admitted that owning an electric-assisted bicycle may positively influence the way the bicycle is used as a means of transport.
According to market forecasts, by 2025 the value of the global bicycle market is expected to increase to EUR 80 billion with a production of 210 million units. “Our financial results in the Romet Group for 2021 confirm these trends because we increased revenues by 35% to approx. PLN 450 million. This year, we expect that the revenues of the entire Romet Group will exceed PLN 600 million. A definitely big change on the market, which is clearly visible recently, is the growing interest in electric bikes, in Poland we are starting to sell more and more e-bikes”, said Grzegorz Grzyb, vice president of Romet.
Although electric bikes are more expensive than regular bikes, interest in them is growing steadily. It is estimated that in 2026 their share in the Polish bicycle market worth PLN 5.5 billion will reach 30%.
