Coal at the Port of Gdansk. A total of 8 million tonnes shipped since the beginning of the year

by Dignity News
“From the beginning of the year until October, a total of 8 million tonnes of imported coal has been reloaded at the Port of Gdansk”, said Anna Drozd, a spokeswoman for the port. Additional quays are being opened to increase the volume of transhipments.

The spokeswoman said that between two and ten vessels with coal are received in the port of Gdansk daily.

“From the beginning of the year to October, we reloaded a total of 8 million tonnes of imported coal. We estimate that our transhipment capacity by the end of the year will reach an additional 2.7 million tonnes. We are also launching additional quays to accommodate these increased transhipments, located in the Inner Port”, said Anna Drozd.

She added that around 20 trains and around 350 coal trucks leave the port daily. The port operates 24/7 in shifts and transshipments are carried out on a daily basis.

Last Saturday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the Port of Gdansk that in the eight months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, all logistics related to coal deliveries to Poland have been built up. Last week alone, 169 trains full of coal and 2,700 TIR trucks left for various local authorities, thermal power plants and power stations across the country. He added that the quality of the raw material is checked three times and the “certified, good quality” coal is ordered from 17 different directions.

Mateusz Morawiecki noted that the government makes sure that cooperation with local governments is the best possible.

“I would like to thank the local governments, because we managed to agree on the principles of cooperation. We are proceeding with the relevant legislation”, said the Prime Minister. The head of government added that information from importers confirms that the quality of imported coal is checked several times.

“Donald Tusk spoke of importing clay and stones repainted black. I have just received reports from importers, which confirm that the coal imported into Poland is of high, three times checked quality,’ the Prime Minister stressed.
