A training centre for nuclear power for Central and Eastern Europe will be established in Poland. Final Polish-American negotiations on the establishment of the Centre are underway. On the US side, the activities of the centre are to be coordinated by the US Department of Energy, on the Polish side the coordinator is to be the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
“It will be a Central European training centre for the nuclear power industry, based in Warsaw. We are planning to start its activities later this year”, announced Anna Moskwa, Minister for Climate and Environment.
The head of the climate ministry explained that the centre’s task will be to train the necessary personnel for nuclear projects in Poland, based on both large and small reactors.
“The centre will support the offer of postgraduate studies, and specialised training will also be provided for companies already operating in the market. The Centre will also provide training for individuals, engineers, and project management classes. Thanks to the centre, competencies will be created, which we will need above all in the case of a large nuclear power plant, but not only”, said the minister and informed that training at the centre is to be conducted, among others, by the Warsaw University of Technology.
Poland’s first nuclear power plant is to be built in the Choczewo municipality area. The decision to indicate the location was issued by the Pomeranian Voivode. It will enable the company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) to carry out detailed studies necessary for the drafting of the location report.
The Ministry of Climate and Environment is conducting proceedings to issue a fundamental decision for 10 nuclear reactor sites. To date, decisions have been issued for 2 power plants. According to the schedule, the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland is to start in 2026, the first unit is to start operating in 2033.
