‘The Trimarium Initiative is one of the most important elements for the security of Poland and the entire region’, said President Andrzej Duda in Bucharest. He stressed that the flagship projects of the Initiative, in addition to the gas interconnectors that Poland has managed to create together with its neighbours from Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia, are infrastructure projects, road projects such as Via Carpatia, Via Baltica, and rail projects such as Rail Baltica.

Brought together the leaders of 12 countries from northern, central and southern Europe, the 8th Summit and Business Forum of the Trimarium Initiative concluded in the Romanian capital.

Summing up the event, the Polish President pointed out that the success of this summit was the accession of Greece to the Trimarium Initiative. ‘Greece has been admitted as a full member state of the European Union to the Trimarium Initiative, but the accession of Moldova as an associate partner is also a success’, he added.

In addition to representatives of the 12 countries associated with the Initiative, the meeting was also attended by representatives of the USA, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European institutions. The President of Ukraine, associated with the Trimarium, also remotely connected with the summit participants. ‘This shows the value of the cooperation we are implementing here’, Andrzej Duda stressed.

As the President remarked, this summit is so popular and so important because the Trimarium Initiative has shown its importance especially recently. ‘We have seen the necessity of all the infrastructure projects we have implemented, also in terms of moving equipment, supplies and aid to Ukraine”, he said.

The Trimarium countries have spent more than €80 billion on infrastructure projects between 2018 and 2021.

The Trimarium Initiative brings together 12 countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. The idea is to stimulate the economic development of the Central and Eastern European countries and to create a stable and coherent partnership of countries from the area between the Baltic Sea, the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea.
