The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will visit Poland on June 2. “It will happen if the Commission completes the approval procedure for the Polish National Reconstruction Plan (KPO) by that time”, said European Commission spokeswoman Dana Spinant on Twitter.
The spokesman of the Polish government, Piotr Müller said that delivering funds from the KPO may happen around September. He also informed the public that all the KPO programs are being launched now.
“The government is already launching all the programs that are in the KPO, that is, all tenders, all calls in this area. They are already gaining momentum so that later these funds will be refinanced from the payment that will be received from the European Union”, added the government spokesman.
The deputy spokesman for Law and Justice, Radosław Fogiel said that the KPO was submitted by Poland in May last year.
“Unfortunately, he was taken hostage by the European Commission for purely political reasons. There were no substantive reasons for not being accepted. Negotiations on this matter have ended, and we are waiting for the approval of the decisions by the European Commission. The Parliament decides independently on Polish law, we take into account external conditions, but the final decision rests with the Sejm”, emphasizes Fogiel.
Under the Reconstruction Fund from the EU cohesion policy budget for 2021-2027, Poland has been promised around 76 billion euros to its disposal. KPO should support the Polish economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. Poland requests EUR 23.9 billion available under grants and EUR 11.5 billion from the loan part, i.e. EUR 35.4 billion in total.
