British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who visited Warsaw on February 10, met with President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and went to see British and Polish soldiers at the base of the Warsaw Armored Brigade.
The main topic of talks between the British prime minister and Polish politicians was the issue of security in the region, with particular emphasis on Russia’s actions towards Ukraine.
Boris Johnson at a press conference following the meeting with Prime Minister Morawiecki said that when Poland is under threat, Great Britain is always ready to help, just like Poland has always been ready to help the UK. He also informed the public that 350 British soldiers are joining 100 British soldiers sent to Poland in winter due to the crisis on the border with Belarus.
Johnson said that “Poland and Great Britain will not accept a world where some big neighbour can harass or attack another neighbour. We will not accept it because we believe that every nation, no matter where it lives, has the right to choose who governs it and also has the right to decide which international organization it wishes to join”.
Polish PM Morawiecki stated that Putin’s political goal is to break up NATO. “Therefore, we must definitely show how coherent we are. Because we are coherent. We live in very turbulent times; therefore, we must definitely care for our alliances. These fragile times create additional challenges for us today – emphasized the head of the Polish government.
During a meeting at the Presidential Palace, Boris Johnson and Andrzej Duda discussed the steps taken by the allies to encourage de-escalation and find a diplomatic solution to the current tensions on the border with Ukraine.
