The new CMS-09 car by students from the Cerber Motorsport team at Bialystok University of Technology is expected to be more agile and aerodynamic than previous vehicles. The state-of-the-art hybrid-powered design will compete in 2024 in four competition series: in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland.
The Cerber Motorsport team, which operates as part of the Student Auto-Moto-Club, is based at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Bialystok University of Technology. Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are designing and building a new CMS-09 car, which will compete against teams from all over the world.
“In order to construct the cars, passion is needed, constantly updated technical knowledge and creativity, but also technical, substantive and financial support”, recalls Dr Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, professor of PB, Rector of the Białystok University of Technology. “I would like to thank the voivodeship authorities, the city authorities and our industrial partners very much for their technical, but also financial support for the activities of our scientific club”, she added.
This will be the first hybrid car in the history of the Białystok University of Technology. The electronics department of the Cerber Motorsport team handled the implementation of the hybrid drive.
Bialystok University of Technology students not only learn to design and build cars, but also to establish lasting relationships with the socio-economic environment. Metal-Fach Sp. z.o.o. is a key sponsor of the team. For many years, the company has provided and prepared the material needed for the welding stations for the self-supporting structure elements, suspension and aerodynamics. In addition, Metal-Fach covers the costs of importing the hard-to-find material for the rear frame, which is part of the hybrid self-supporting structure.
In 2023, the Cerber Motorsport team won the Formula Student Poland competition. Prior to that, it took 1st place overall in Formula Student Romania. In 2022, the CMS-08 car achieved a historic result in the final ranking by placing 4th in Formula Student Germany.
As the first Polish team, Cerber Motorsport stood on the podium of the Formula SAE Italy competition already in 2016.
