Baltic Pipe started gas deliveries

by Dignity News
Gas deliveries via Baltic Pipe have begun. The investment connects the Polish and Danish transmission systems, which will allow gas from the Norwegian shelf to flow to our country. Gaz-System has stated how much gas is being sent to Poland per day.

“As promised over six years ago – we have kept our word. Today at 6:10 a.m. gas transmission to Poland via the Baltic Pipe pipeline started”, Gaz-System announced on Twitter on Saturday. The company added that the daily nomination for 1 October 2022 is 62.4 million kWh per day.

The gas pipeline was officially commissioned on Tuesday last week. Its operators are Denmark’s Energinet and Poland’s Gaz-System. The former company said that due to the progress of the work, the Danish section of the pipeline could be at full capacity a few weeks earlier than expected, i.e. from the end of November this year.

Anna Moskwa, Minister for Climate and Environment also referred to this development on Twitter: “Today is a historic moment and a day we have been waiting for for many years – the gas transmission through the Baltic Pipe pipeline started punctually at 6 o’clock”.

Baltic Pipe is a Polish-Danish project, the final investment decision on its construction was made in 2018. It consists of four gas compressor stations, transmission systems in Poland and Denmark, as well as two offshore pipelines laid on the bottom of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Construction was completed in 2022, with the exception of two sections in Denmark, where work was halted for several months in 2021 due to the revocation of environmental permits. Therefore, for the first few months the system is only expected to operate at partial capacity. The Gaz-System CEO Tomasz Stępień estimated that during the official opening, since Saturday the gas flow should amount to 200,000 cubic metres per hour while the nominal capacity is over 1 million cubic metres per hour.
