On 25 November 2022, from 4pm to 10pm, the second Anglicists’ Night will take place in 15 Polish universities, in 14 cities, consisting of more than 130 events.
The Anglicists’ Night is an evening full of lectures, workshops and presentations prepared by native English speakers from all over Poland. It is a unique event whose main objective is to show the insights and academic potential of Polish En
glish studies, as well as to demonstrate the falseness of the myth that English studies is only about learning a language.
As part of the initiative, events are held both in-studio and online. Participation is free of charge, although registration is required for some of them.
The Anglicists’ Night is organised and coordinated by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, which is inviting participants to a series of lectures and workshops on issues such as reading phonetic transcription of English, translation of advertising texts and English pronunciation.
At the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Dr Izabela Curyłło-Klag will give a lecture on the British monarchy in the 21st century, followed by an invitation to discuss the evolution of the monarchy after the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the challenges facing King Charles III.
Pedagogical University of Krakow is offering a workshop led by Dr Agnieszka Gicala, who will explore how to translate a 200-year-old fragment of Tadeusz Kościuszko’s letter written in English.
During the Anglicists’ Night, the Catholic University of Lublin is inviting participants to a meeting devoted to English tenses.
The University of Gdańsk is offering workshops on the basic elements of youth language and translation strategies.
The University of Białystok is presenting an adaptation of King Lear, performed by third-year English students in a ‘read theatre’ format.
