Amazon.pl checked whether Poles are traditionalists when it comes to holidays, gifts and Christmas habits

by Dignity News
More and more Poles dream of spending Christmas in a less traditional way, away from home – more than a quarter of respondents (26 %) would like to go to warm countries or to the mountains, e.g. for snowboarding. On average, Poles want to spend PLN 650 on Christmas gifts, according to a survey conducted by Amazon.pl in cooperation with the IBRiS Institute for Market and Social Research.

The aim of the survey was to find out whether Poles are still traditionalists when it comes to Christmas, what emotions accompany them at this time and what their attitude to gifts is.

As many as 64 % of Poles spent last year’s Christmas traditionally at home, surrounded by family. This year, on the other hand, only 30 % of respondents dream of spending Christmas with a large family, while an increasing number would like to spend it away from home, in warm countries, on a beach or in the mountains (26 %). It is mainly Generation X – the generation of people born between 1965 and 1980 – men (22 %) and women (20 %) who dream of going abroad.

The Amazon.co.uk report shows that Poles are very fond of searching for and buying gifts. More than half love giving gifts and this year as many as 75 % of respondents also intend to give their loved ones a gift.

Poles plan to spend an average of PLN 650 on gifts this year, with 24 % wanting to spend between PLN 251 and PLN 500, and 21 % wanting to spend between PLN 501 and PLN 1,000. 31 % of respondents say they will be looking for promotions and shopping bargains, while 21 per cent will start looking for gifts early to buy them at a lower price.

When choosing a gift, we are primarily guided by its functionality (58 %) and quality (54 per cent) and pay less attention to the preferences of the recipient (35 %) or the emotional message (30 %). 71 % of respondents believe that the best gift should be mainly practical and to a lesser extent beautiful (20 %). The reasonable price of a gift is an important criterion for as many as 84 % of Poles.
