According to Amazon citing a report by consulting firm Keystone. it has allocated more than PLN 20 billion in Poland for investments supporting the local economy, employment and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) between 2012 and 2022,
Poland has become an important centre of new technology development for Amazon. Since its first investment in Poland, which was the purchase of Gdańsk-based start-up IVONA Software in 2012, the company has continuously invested in the development of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and three Technology Development Centres (Amazon Development Center Poland) in Gdańsk, Kraków and Warsaw. It is there that the state-of-the-art solutions provided by Amazon are developed and implemented.
Technology is the driving force behind all of Amazon’s business activities in Poland. Above all, however, it is the basis for growth in e-commerce. Therefore, along with the increase in demand for services, Amazon is focusing on the development of operations and efficiency of logistics centres.
Amazon Operations regional director for Central and Eastern Europe Sławomir Płonka argues that investments in infrastructure are necessary to meet growing customer demand, expand product offerings and support more sellers.
According to the company, Amazon has created and supported more than 70,000 direct and indirect jobs in Poland in 2022. They include positions for people working in the supply chain and supporting Amazon’s operations, as well as jobs created by SMEs that sell through the marketplace, reaching hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. According to Keystone’s estimates, Amazon’s investments in Poland between 2012 and 2022 generated wages with a total value of more than PLN 15 billion.
Amazon has been operating in Poland since 2014. Amazon.pl has been launched in March 2021.
