According to a Columbus Energy survey on energy security, almost 90 % of Poles expect investments in renewable energy sources (RES), more than half believe in building Poland’s own nuclear power plant and 42 % would agree to the construction of windmills within 1 km of their homes.
The fact that Poland is a country with bad or very bad security in terms of energy supply is indicated by 44 % of the surveyed people. 19 % of respondents assess Poland’s security as rather good, 4 % say that our country is very well secured.
In order to increase energy security, 52 % of surveyed Poles propose building own nuclear power plant. 51 % of respondents say that energy security should be developed by investing in RES-based power plants. Only 9 % of Poles pointed to increasing imports of fossil fuels from abroad as a way to develop the country’s energy security.
87 % of respondents are of the opinion that Poland should invest in renewable energy sources, while 11 % have no opinion on the subject. 70 % of respondents say that photovoltaics is one way to increase energy security, while this was 10 % in spring 2022 (during the first Columbus survey).
“Poles are also surprisingly favourable towards the controversial topic of building wind farms near their homes. As many as 42 % of the surveyed owners of detached single-family houses would agree to the construction of a windmill within 1 km of the house. 20 % would allow a distance of up to 5 km”, said the survey report.
The survey was conducted on behalf of Columbus Energy between 4 October and 12 December 2022 on a sample of N = 999 adult Poles by telephone interview (CATI).
