Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that at today’s meeting, the government will adopt a draft regarding the payment of the 14th pension in 2022 and will consider extending the entire anti-inflationary shield. According to the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg, the payment of the fourteenth pensions will start in August. About 9 million people are entitled to the benefit.
“This is the high time for our active state, for a state that generates new income in order to allocate it to support seniors”, said Prime Minister Morawiecki during a press conference on Tuesday, May 17, and added that “liberals will call the idea of the 14th pension, which we will accept in the Council of Ministers today, as a handout. I will say that it is an effort for dignity. The state should support those who need this help the most”.
The Polish prime minister noted that the government had so far implemented the “Retirement Without Tax” program up to PLN 2,500. It also offers a tax reduction to 12% from July 1. and an increase in net pensions. It promises finally the 13th and 14th retirement pension”, added Morawiecki.
Mateusz Morawiecki stated that “for seniors, the most important thing is health care and a decent retirement, but also that the autumn of life should be the most active time. As long as we rule, we will try to obtain the best pensions and lifestyle for our seniors”, the Prime Minister assured.
Referring to the global economic situation in connection with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the head of the Polish government said that he shared the view of the US president who mentioned the main causes of global inflation: the war in Ukraine and the increase in energy commodity prices.
“It is a special time when Russia is committing war crimes and we are dealing with perturbations in the commodity market. The economic turbulence is truly unprecedented and is hitting the economic models of many entrepreneurs”, Morawiecki said.
