The White House informed that US President Joe Biden will receive President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk in a joint meeting on 12 March. The leaders will reaffirm their continued support for defending Ukraine from a brutal war waged by Russia.
“The meeting also coincides with the 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO and underscores the shared unwavering commitment of the United States and Poland to the NATO alliance that makes us all safer”, says a statement released by the White House on Thursday.
Other topics will include a strong US-Poland strategic energy security partnership, a strong economic relationship, and a shared US-Poland commitment to democratic values.
Following the announcement of the date of the visit, President Duda tweeted that the joint visit of the president and prime minister to Washington on the anniversary of Poland’s entry into Nato shows that the Polish-US alliance is and will remain strong regardless of who is in power in both countries.
“Poland, spending 4 % of GDP on defence, is a reliable ally and a model for other countries in the Alliance”, Andrzej Duda wrote.
The head of the Polish President’s Chancellery, Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych, commented on Andrzej Duda’s visit overseas on Thursday evening. She confirmed that Andrzej Duda had received such an invitation. “We are very pleased with this invitation. The USA is the most important of our allies”, said the officer.
She added that the details and agenda of the meeting are currently being agreed and that the topics President Duda would like to address with the US President are “obvious”.
“An obvious topic is security, the presence of US troops in Poland, military cooperation or issues related to armaments and military equipment, as well as further support for Ukraine”, she said.
