Work on the construction of Orlen Group’s transshipment terminal on the Martwa Wisła river is progressing according to plan and is advanced by 50 %. The investment will strengthen the logistics capabilities of the refinery in Gdansk and will ultimately enable the transshipment of approximately 2 million tonnes of fuel products per year.
Thanks to the terminal, the Gdansk refinery will strengthen its logistical independence and gain an additional expedition route. The terminal’s reloading capacity is planned at around 2 million tonnes of products per year, it was stated. The value of the contract for the construction of the terminal is approximately PLN 500 million.
In parallel, the construction of a hydrocracking oil block (HBO) is underway, which will increase oil processing capacity and allow the introduction of new categories of advanced oil products. The percentage advancement of individual tasks is approximately 60 % in the terminal part and 50 % in the refinery part.
As part of the construction of the transshipment terminal on the Martwa Wisła River, a 380-metre-long wharf will be built. This will allow the handling of marine vessels of up to 10,000 tonnes. The quay will include two transhipment berths (each with four loading arms) for handling tankers. The investment also includes pipelines, flyovers and underground and ancillary infrastructure that will connect the new terminal to the refinery.
Orlen also has plans for further investments at the Gdansk refinery, including modern, low- and zero-emission technologies. By the end of 2027, an installation producing low-emission hydrogen using a 1 MW electrolyser will be built on the site. The investment will also include a 1 MW photovoltaic farm, an energy management system, and a waste heat recovery system.
Orlen Group manages refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, has retail operations in Central Europe, mining operations in Poland, Norway, Canada and Pakistan, as well as energy production and natural gas distribution.
