The Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and the FinTech Poland Foundation have concluded an agreement on a project to build a next-generation financial centre in Poland – Future Finance Poland. On behalf of SGH, the document was signed by Rector Dr Piotr Wachowiak, Prof. SGH, and on behalf of the FinTech Poland Foundation by President Dr Paweł Widawski.
“The idea of this project is to strengthen Poland, in this case Warsaw, as a major next-generation financial centre and to create a Warsaw City, a place where it is worth investing, locating financial institutions with new technologies, such as fintech entities”, said the head of the FINTECH Digital Finance Department, Dr Lech Kurkliński, SGH professor, responsible for the project on behalf of SGH.
“Poland has a financial supervision that recognises new challenges, an appropriate technical infrastructure, including telecommunications, and a society that is open to technological innovation in the financial sphere – for example, the Polish banking system is one of the best rated in the world in this area”, convinces Prof. Kurkliński. And he explains that the increased rivalry between different financial centres is partly due to the effects of Brexit, when the City of London began to lose its importance and some institutions started to move out of the UK capital.
Prof. Kurklinski added that as part of the project, the FinTech Poland Foundation, together with academia, is setting up a consortium of universities to promote education at the appropriate level. As he pointed out, SGH in Warsaw is a leader when it concerns fintech.
“Three years ago, we initiated a new FINTECH postgraduate programme at SGH. We can say that we have consolidated our position among universities in this area by offering an interesting programme and gaining participants for these studies for the third year in a row. SGH is a centre with the knowledge and scientific environment of both its own employees and external collaborators who are experts in fintech”, stressed Prof Kurkliński.
