Polish multi-utility company Orlen already owns nearly 3,500 modern fuel stations in seven CEE countries. Orlen has finalised the purchase of Doppler Energie GmbH, which manages 267 Turmöl fuel stations in Austria. The value of the transaction is estimated at around EUR 330-430 million. The group is considering further acquisitions in the region.

“We have just become one of the three largest petrol networks in Austria, holding a share of around 10 % in this retail market. With the completion of the transaction, we have already met our strategic targets for the number of petrol stations in the region by 2030 by more than 98 %. However, we are not slowing down. We still want to grow, which is why we are already looking at further acquisitions, both in Austria and other countries. Our goal invariably remains to strengthen a strong Polish brand in Europe”, says Orlen’s CEO Daniel Obajtek.

The conditional agreement with Doppler Group, the largest independent operator in Austria, was concluded at the beginning of July 2023. In September 2023. The European Commission approved the acquisition, deeming the transaction compatible with the rules of the common market. It has now been finalised following regulatory approval and corporate approvals.

Currently, Orlen has 3,439 fuel stations, of which 1,931 are located in Poland and 1,508 in foreign markets: in Germany (607), the Czech Republic (436), Slovakia (90), Hungary (78), Lithuania (30) and now also in Austria (267). Thus, facilities outside the country constitute nearly 44 % of the Polish company’s entire retail network.

The Orlen Group manages refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, has retail operations in Central Europe, mining operations in Poland, Norway, Canada, and Pakistan, as well as energy production, including from renewable energy sources, and natural gas distribution.
