On Wednesday 22 November, a summit of the Visegrad Group was held in Prague with the participation of the Presidents: Poland’s Andrzej Duda, the Czech Republic’s Petr Pavel, Slovakia’s Zuzana Czaputová and Hungary’s Katalin Novak, at which a proposal to increase donations to the Visegrad Fund was made.

Before the start of the summit, the Head of the International Policy Office of the Chancellery of the President of Poland Mieszko Pawlak announced that among the topics of the V4 presidents’ talks would be the most important international problems, such as the situation in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East and the issue of EU enlargement. He added that the Czech presidency is also keen to discuss people-to-people contacts within the Visegrad Group, as well as the construction of an innovative economy and good infrastructure connections and the Trimarium Initiative.

At a joint press conference after the meeting, President Andrzej Duda underlined that the main topics of the talks included the Visegrad Fund and its impact on the development of Central and Eastern Europe.

Hungarian President Katalin Novak proposed to increase donations to the Visegrad Fund. ” We will certainly consider this and propose it to our prime ministers”, said Polish President Andrzej Duda after the summit.

As President Duda reported, another important element of the conversation was infra-structure development and economic development and security.

“We spoke very extensively about infrastructural development, I stressed the great importance that our Visegrad four have, here in the heart of Central Europe, also for the development of the Trimarium iInitiative”, said Andrzej Duda and added that the Visegrad Group is “the heart of this Trimarium”.

The Presidents of the Visegrad Group countries also touched upon, among other issues, the war in the Middle East. Hungarian President Katalin Novak stressed that Israel has been brutally attacked. As she pointed out, the V4 Group agrees that it is necessary to prevent the escalation of this conflict and to minimise civilian casualties.
