Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, in cooperation with Westinghouse Electric Company and Bechtel, organised a two-day ‘Supplier Day’ conference in Gdynia. The event was aimed at companies from Pomerania that want to take part in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland.
“The aim of the Supplier Day initiative is to develop and strengthen local entrepreneurship by involving as many Pomeranian companies as possible in the project to build Poland’s first nuclear power plant. Thanks to this event and the next ones, that we are planning to organise together with our American partners, we would like to identify local Polish contractors and suppliers, who will actively participate in the investment process and conclude specific commercial contracts in the future”, says president of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, Mateusz Berger.
The conference agenda included presentations of key aspects related to the construction of a nuclear power plant in a selected location, as well as panels devoted to logistics and supply chain security, which are an indispensable part of a project of this scale. The event brought together around 70 stakeholders interested in participating in the project.
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe is a special purpose company responsible for preparing the investment process and acting as an investor in the government’s nuclear power plant construction programme. The first of the plants to be built in Pomerania, in the Choczewo municipality, is to consist of three AP1000 reactors and will be designed by a consortium of American companies Westinghouse – Bechtel. Construction is expected to start in 2026 and the first unit of the plant is expected to start producing electricity in 2033.
To date, Westinghouse Electric Company, a technology provider, has signed letters of intent with 34 companies in Poland. Considered the needs and capabilities of local contractors, they are expected to enable the design of supply chains for the nuclear power plant, ensuring that their participation is maximised.
