The best theatre groups from all over Poland will present a total of 12 performances as part of the 31st National Puppet Theatre Festival in Opole. The programme of the event to be held from 14 to 20 October also includes workshops, exhibitions, meetings, and a concert. The festival is organised by the Alojzy Smolka Puppet and Actor Theatre in Opole.

“We are approaching a unique event that beautifully colours the space of the city, bringing entertainment and education. It is a great tradition, as the first festival dates back to the early 1960s. The festival has a rich programme with over forty events”, said Opole Deputy Mayor Przemysław Zych at the press conference announcing the festival.

The festival has been held in Opole since 1962, at first it was a regional event and later turned into a national festival.

“It is a time when theatre works at high speed, but does so with joy, the pleasure of meeting several hundred Polish puppeteers here. Theatre is a living art that tackles the problems of the modern world, and this is the nature of the festival. Audiences will see a variety of performances on everyday topics, aimed at adults, young people and children”, announced the director of Opole’s theatre, Krystian Kobyłka.

Ten theatres from all over Poland will stage competitive performances including: “Lights and shadows” by the “Mask” Theatre in Rzeszów; “Pinocchio” and “Bullet” by the Wrocław Puppet Theatre; “Simulator” by the Białystok Puppet Theatre and “DEBIL/ i_stu_las” by the Refound Theatre in Jelenia Góra.

The hosts of the festival will show two performances – “Troy. There will be no war!” and “Me gorilla, you man”. The other competition performances are: “Romance” by Natalia Sakowicz; “Wall with a view” by the Coincidentia Group in Białystok; “Forbidden children – a Korczak story” by the Banialuka Puppet Theatre in Bielsko-Biała; “Dad” by the Arlekin Puppet Theatre in Łódź and “Big Buzz Grow” by the Pinocchio Theatre in Łódź.
