KGHM joins the “Odra Hydrogen Transport Route” programme

by Dignity News
KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., KGHM Metraco S.A. and GRUPA AZOTY Zakłady Azotowe KĘDZIERZYN S.A. have signed a letter of intent to cooperate in the implementation of the “Odra Hydrogen Transport Route” programme.

“This is our next step towards sustainable production and transformation. The implementation of our strategic goals requires coordinated action on many levels, many of which require cooperation. I am convinced that the knowledge and experience of all the partners in this agreement guarantee our effectiveness and success”, said Mateusz Wodejko, Vice President for Financial Affairs at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

The cooperation includes, among other things, the exchange of information and experience, as well as activities related to the preparation of concepts for projects involving the construction of a multimodal transport hub. The projects involve work on the concept of building a logistics and distribution centre for the products of the Letter of Intent partners, together with a transshipment terminal based on water transport.

All parties have declared their interest in using the terminal’s infrastructure and services in the future. They anticipate that the launch of the new terminal will expand the range of goods whose logistics will be based on intermodal cargo, which will optimise the costs of these operations.

The use of intermodal transport is part of the global trend towards the development of modern logistics solutions. Increasing the share of inland transport corresponds to the expectations of using ecological technologies. Cooperation between KGHM, KGHM Metraco and Grupa Azoty ZAK S.A. will facilitate the realisation of goals arising from development strategies and international agreements on energy transition and sustainable transport.

During their cooperation, the companies will set up technical teams and work towards the Oder Waterway obtaining the status of an international waterway along its entire course and the inclusion of the City of Głogów as a node of the TEN-T network.
