Polish President Andrzej Duda at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York attended the opening of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG Summit. Later, the Polish leader moderated a panel on ‘Building resilience and leaving no one behind’. On Tuesday, 19 September, President Duda will address the General Debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the SDG Summit, Andrzej Duda indicated that in times of crisis, investing in social resilience and social security is particularly important to ensure that no one is left behind. He added that in Poland it is a priority to provide support especially to vulnerable people, as well as to families, children and the elderly.
He stressed that Poland will work to reduce poverty rates across the country, including poverty in families, especially those with many children, and strengthen policy coherence, governance and institutional capacity for sustainable development.
It will continue to support an equitable energy transition, including the development of renewable energy sources and nuclear energy.
At Christ The King High School in New York, Andrzej Duda and his wife met with representatives of the Polish community. During the event, the President presented state awards for outstanding contributions to the Polish community in the United States.
In New York, the Polish President met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The topics of conversation included security issues, the situation in the Central and Eastern European region in relation to Russian aggression against Ukraine, and food security, including the transport of Ukrainian grain.
Andrzej Duda also spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and attended a reception held to mark the 50th anniversary of Germany’s accession to the UN.
On Tuesday, 19 September, the Polish leader is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski and discuss, among other things, the Ukrainian grain issue.
