After visiting Ukraine, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw. Topics of discussion included economic cooperation and Japanese investment in Poland, as well as security issues and the war in Ukraine. „In terms of security, we agreed to further deepen cooperation in several areas, such as hardware, cyberspace, space and telecommunications, based on the memorandum on defence cooperation signed in February 2022”, Kishida said after his meeting with the head of the Polish government.
Prime Minister Kishida, who was in Warsaw on Wednesday, pointed out that Russian aggression against Ukraine has been ongoing for a year and expressed thanks and respect for Poland, which acts as a hub providing military and humanitarian support to Ukraine, standing on the front line.
„In view of the increasing burden on Poland due to Russia’s prolonged aggression against Ukraine, I informed the Prime Minister that we have decided to give special treatment to Poland as a recipient of official development assistance, even though Poland is already developing economically and is not qualified as an aid recipient country. We would like to gradually increase the number of projects,” stated Fumio Kishida.
The Japanese Prime Minister also met with President Andrzej Duda. As the Presidential Minister Marcin Przydacz said after the meeting that the talks concerned the topics of security and the war in Ukraine, as well as bilateral issues: economic cooperation and Japanese investment presence in Poland.
‘These were very good talks with good results for Poland and for regional security’, said Przydacz, who stressed that both Poland and Japan stand on the side of the world order based on international law, which Vladimir Putin is violating today, which ‘resounded quite loudly here in the Presidential Palace today during the Polish-Japanese talks’.
