“Lockheed Martin has placed its first production order at Military Armament Works (WZU), a company of the Polish Armament Group”, stated the US defence company.
As part of the offset agreement for Phase I of the Vistula programme, WZU received an initial order worth PLN7m ($1.5m) for heater con-troller units. This is one of the key components of the PAC-3 MSE ground equipment, which will be manufactured in Poland and installed in the national system upon delivery.
The PAC-3 MSE missile is a key component of the anti-missile defence that Poland is developing, and their precision and training package guarantees the Polish Armed Forces key capabilities in this area.
As Lockheed Martin points out, the order is the result of four years of cooperation including support and technical preparation of the WZU for the production of heating controllers at the Grudziądz plant. The contract paves the way for future orders and prospects for further partnership between the two companies.
“Our partnership with Polish industry provides the Polish Ministry of Defence with both key capabilities and stimulates the growth of the entire Polish industrial base, strengthening our ties”, said Brenda Davidson, vice president of the PAC-3 programme at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
Robert Orzyłowski, Lockheed Martin’s director for Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, recalled that Lockheed Martin has been supporting the Polish economy for more than 20 years by partnering with Polish industry. “In the last 10 years alone, we have invested around PLN 8 billion ($1.8 billion) in our Polish supply chain partners, increasing their capacity to grow and sustaining more than 5,000 jobs”, he added.
